The whole purpose of this blog is for users/viewers to know more about South African cuisine, more specifically the traditional side of things. There are quite a number of dishes that are considered ‘food for the soul’ for many South Africans who enjoy indulging in a good home-made traditional meal.
The famous dishes vary from offering tribe meat(famously referred to as ‘mogudu’), to hard body chicken, the inner parts of the chicken(gizzards, hearts, intestines, livers), pork trots, cow head meat, goats head meat, cow trotters and that is just to mention a few.
Most of these dishes are served alongside your favorite choice of starch, be it pap, samp and beans, dumpling bread ,with vegetables like spinach, pumpkin, cabbage or chakalaka. There are a lot of restaurants in and around South Africa that offer traditional cuisine, but these meals are also easy to prepare at the comfort of your own kitchen.
I hope this blog inspires everyone who has always been keen on trying South African traditional cuisine, be it whether you’re a tourist in South African or proudly a South African citizen, and for those who are already fans of this type of soul food, welcome to the club!
